In the energy sector, it is vital to reduce our dependence of fossil fuel-based energy and to focus on renewable energy sources in combination with more efficient use of energy; and this must be addressed in all future energy-related strategic decisions. To achieve a low carbon society, several measures such as technology innovation in renewable energy, switching from fossil fuel to non-carbon fuel, carbon emission control, and increase of energy efficiency should be taken through systematic processes.

We believed that AT for early intervention will make it possible for children with disabilities to be more independent at home, schools and in the community. A child with speech problems can communicate using augmentative and alternative communications. A child with learning disabilities can use accessible learning tools in the classroom and a child who cannot use his hands can use on-screen keyboard, switches or eyegaze system to assess the computer. Assistive technology can mean anything from simple, homemade devices to highly sophisticated environmental control systems. It can be adapted toys, computers assess, powered mobility, augmentative and alternative communication devices, special switches and other adapted tools to assist a child with learning and interacting socially

With this awareness, this Conference was initiated under collaboration between Macquarie University and the School of Liberal Arts, King Mongkut's University of Technology Thonburi. The goal of the conference is to share and learn about a variety of aspects of doing research in applied linguistics, including:
* purposes and uses of research in applied linguistics
* research paradigms and their applications
* issues in data collection and analysis
* experiences of research and development as a researcher
